Smart homes in Azerbaijan: what can you automate, and how much does it cost?
From hallway lighting to leak protection: useful routines, real limitations and a practical way to plan your budget.

Start with a goal, not a shopping list
An apartment in Baku and a detached home on the Absheron Peninsula have different needs. In an apartment, convenient lighting, climate control and early leak detection may come first. A house can add gates, irrigation, a pool and electric vehicle charging. You do not need to buy everything at once. Choose a few repetitive tasks you actually want to simplify.
Picture a normal evening: movement turns on the hallway light, temperature follows a schedule, and selected lights switch off when you leave. These are examples of routines, not a promise that any appliance can perform them without additional equipment.
What can you automate in practice?
Lighting without constant instructions
A motion sensor, a suitable relay and a thoughtful routine can turn lights on when needed. A gentle night light is often more useful in a bedroom than switching on every lamp. Hallway timing matters too: someone who pauses briefly should not be left in the dark.
Before installation, check the wiring, availability of a neutral conductor, load rating and type, and manual control options. A smart relay does not make every lamp dimmable. Mains electrical work belongs with a qualified professional.
Climate control for compatible equipment
An air conditioner, radiator and underfloor heating system need different control methods. A thermostatic head does not fit every radiator valve. An infrared controller for an air conditioner may also lack reliable feedback about the appliance's actual state.
One practical routine pauses heating while a window is open and restores the selected mode when it closes. It needs a compatible opening sensor, an actuator and logic that respects manual changes and avoids excessive equipment cycling.
Leak detection and water shut-off are different functions
A sensor beneath a washing machine or sink helps detect water where it is installed. It cannot guarantee detection of every leak in an apartment, and the sensor alone does not shut off the water supply.
The existing catalogue includes an EvIQ Shop leak sensor. Its listing does not mean that a valve, installation and configuration are included in the sensor's price.
Energy monitoring: understand consumption first
Measuring individual appliances or the main supply helps explain when and where electricity is used. Home Assistant can gather readings from compatible sources in its energy dashboard.
Power in kW describes the current load; energy in kWh describes accumulated consumption. They are not interchangeable. A chart does not save electricity by itself. Results follow an action, such as changing a schedule or discovering a device that stays on unnecessarily. Promising a fixed saving percentage in advance would be misleading.
How much does a smart home cost in Azerbaijan?
There is no single price for a smart home. The number of controlled points, equipment choices, existing wiring, engineering work, configuration and ongoing support all affect the budget.
On 10 October 2026, the published EvIQ House calculator lists the Start base solution at 1,199 AZN and Comfort at 1,899 AZN. These are the advertised solution prices on that date, not a universal quotation for any apartment. The website also states that the final price is determined after a site inspection. Check the current offer for the latest scope and price.
When comparing quotations, ask for separate details of:
- The controller, coordinator and communications equipment.
- Sensors, relays, thermostats and actuators, with exact models and quantities.
- Installation, electrical work and plumbing.
- Routine configuration, user training and documentation.
- Support terms, subscriptions and potential later expenses.
Two systems with the same number of sensors can have different costs. One only sends alerts; another operates valves, supports local routines and includes backup power. Compare scope and behaviour alongside the total amount.
Where do Home Assistant and Zigbee fit?
Home Assistant can provide a shared control point for compatible devices. For example, Zigbee sensors send events through a coordinator, while a suitable Wi-Fi device communicates through the local network or a cloud integration. The options depend on the specific model and connection method.
A local architecture is useful, but a logo does not establish it. If a relay only uses its manufacturer's cloud, installing Home Assistant does not automatically make it independent. See our Zigbee versus Wi-Fi guide and our article about smart homes without internet for the underlying decisions.
A sensible way to begin
- Write down three everyday goals and the expected outcome of each.
- Collect the models of existing equipment and a floor plan.
- Define what must happen when internet, the controller or electricity is unavailable.
- Get a quotation with models, work scope and support terms.
- Start with one manageable area and expand after checking its routines.
A good first project is not necessarily the largest. It solves your problem, keeps ordinary manual control where needed and leaves a clear path for later improvements.
